Do you have a idea for a product or service?
Is your product/service so awesome, so simple that there is no way you can fail?
Have you figured out a way to help solve a major social problem?
We want to give you $400. Seriously.
The Startup Expo (formerly titled the Startup Cup) is the GVSU version of Shark Tank. Although we are offering up to $750 in cash prizes, you don’t need to convince us to invest in your idea. Instead, you will have 1.5 hours to convince every person who walks into the Grand River Room on April 17th to text their support for your idea.
What is it?
The Startup Expo, hosted by the Student Enterprise Association, is a competition to reward entrepreneurial students on the Grand Valley State University Campus. The competition is open to all majors, and non-business students are strongly encouraged to apply.
Our philosophy is simple. If you can find a customer, you’ve created a potentially viable business.
Your job is simpler: (1) Apply. (2) Show up. (3) Convince audience members to vote. (4) Win some serious cash.
some – serious – cash: noun \ˈsəm\ˈsir-ē-əs\ˈkash\. $750 in cash prizes will be awarded to the three most viable businesses/ideas.
What are the Rules?
There are no rules, well almost none. After you apply, your application will be reviewed the the E-Board of the Student Enterprise Association. We want to make sure you’ve put a little effort into answering the questions.
If you want to have a poster board, prop, PowerPoint, or visual used during your presentation you must bring it to one of the SEA meetings for approval by SEA members. Any visuals (including but not limited to flyers, samples, etc. ) must be approved by March 26th, 2013. Failure to gain approval will result in immediate disqualification from prizes.
How Do I Apply?
You will receive a confirmation email within one week of submitted your application. Once your application passes screening by the Student Enterprise Association, you will receive an invitation to compete at the Startup Expo via email on March 1st, 2013.
The event is designed to stimulate entrepreneurial activity and increase awareness of the resources available for entrepreneurial students at Grand Valley State University. Any questions should be directed toward the Student Enterprise Association via email email@example.com.
